Concrete pile foundation  for new terminal at LGBIA

GUWAHATI, May 29: The proposed new integrated terminal building of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA), Guwahati has crossed another mile today when the commencement of concrete pile foundation of over 2,000 pillars was done by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) Chairman Dr Guruprasad Mohapatra at the project site of the new terminal.

Talking to the media persons, Dr Mohanapatra said that Govt has approved ample funds for the development of Airports in North-East India and several projects are going on for the expansion and renovation works in the area. The new terminal building at Guwahati Airport is expected to be completed by 2021 which will have all the world class facilities, especially a multi-level car parking area. Considering geographical topography of the region, he said, Regional Connectivity in North-East India is very crucial and the developmental programmes & projects going on here will benefit the people in future.

This new integrated terminal building at Guwahati will also comply with green building norms having GRIHA-4 Ratings. Entire building will have LED lighting system controlled through BMS. The peak hour traffic carrying capacity of the new terminal building will be around 2900 passengers having 77,500 sq.m (approx.) area for movements.

It is notable to mention that in the FY 2017-18, the Airport witnessed 46,68,053 footfalls with a total of 41,172 aircrafts movement ranking it 8th busiest Airport in the country.

Welcoming the guests on the occasion, DK Kamra, Regional Executive Director, AAI, Eastern Region Headquarters said that the AAI is committed to provide world class facility without compromising any safety norms. Emphasizing on the Airport projects going on in Noth-East India, he said that it is a big step for connecting small but beautiful states and their cities in this area which is also a tourism destination.

Earlier in the day, Dr Mohapatra also inaugurated a new tensile fabric canopy at the Sports Complex inside the AAI residential colony. It is one of its kinds in the state and will serve as the platform for various cultural, social and sports activities of AAI. A ceremonial lounge meant for VVIPS and dignitaries at the Guwahati Airport was also inaugurated by Hob’ble Chairman Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra on the day.

Anjali Mohapatra, All India President, Kalyanmayee (AAI’s women welfare association) inaugurated a Day Care Centre (Creech) for the children at the AAI residential colony. A market place having ayurvedic and herbal products was also inaugurated by Mohapatra in the colony. AAI officials and their family members were also present on the occasion to greet the guests.
