Condemning Alliance With BJP Charan Deka Resigns From AGP

GUWAHATI: There have been many speculations during the last few days regarding the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance with no lesser disagreements within the party itself. The strife within the party has led to the resignation of AGP Executive Member, Charan Deka on Wednesday.

At a press communiqué here in the city, Deka informed that his resignation was the outcome of differences with the AGP leader. “The prime purpose of the alliance is solely in the vested interests of Keshav Mahanta’s brother. Honouring the alliance, BJP has provided Asom Gana Parishad with three seats, one each in Koliabor, Barpeta and Dhubri. However, the seats in Barpeta and Dhubri will not yield any results as Asom Gana Parishad can never win in these areas. This generosity is futile and will not bear fruit for the party”, Deka speculated.

Asom Gana Parishad joining hands with BJP has not settled well with many and at a recently convened Executive Member’s meeting, around 90 percent members have protested the party’s alliance with BJP.
