Congress aspirants for Lok Sabha seats

Shillong: At least seven aspirants of the Congress party will vie for the party tickets for two parliamentary seats in the State. For the Shillong parliamentary seat, the contenders include two times sitting MP Vincent Pala, former State Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh and Kennedy Khyriem.

For the Tura seat, there are four aspirants - sitting MLA Zentith Sangma, former Deputy Chief Minister Deborah Ch Marak, Winnerson D Sangma and Richard Marak.

According to the MPCC president, James Lyngdoh, these are the only party members who have shown their interest to contest the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

Asked on short listing the candidates, Lyngdoh simply stated that the process is on and the eventual decision will be taken by the AICC. It is indeed an interesting list of the aspirants within the Congress fold. Sitting MP Vincent Pala has contenders from two defeated MLAs in HDR Lyngdoh and Kennedy Khriem.

For the Tura seat, two sitting MLA, Zenith Sangma alongside Winnerson D Sangma are vying for the party ticket alongside Deborah Marak and Richard Sangma of the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC).

Sources informed that internal politics within the Congress party has heated up. Since the departure of the stalwarts, something or the other comes rumbling in, stated a functionary of the Congress, even as he claimed that the State Congress party is well intact.
