Congress calls Modi a ’trader’

Guwahati, January 10: Launching a fresh tirade against the BJP government at the Centre, the Congress today described Prime Minister rendra Modi as a "trader" who can sell both "good and bad things".

"Modi is a trader. He can sell both good and bad things. But we sell only good things," Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said, addressing 25,000 people who turned up for the Congress’ ‘Protaro Birudhi’ rally organized at the veteriry field here at Khapara.

The rally was organized to protest the BJP’s alleged betrayal. Rattled by dissension and factiolism in past one year, the Congress, through the rally, made attempts to present a united front and sounded the bugle for the 2016 assembly elections.

“The crowd at the rally proves that the people have faith in the Congress. The Congress is a common man’s party. Our men had sacrificed their lives during the freedom struggle,” the Chief Minister said.

He claimed that the promises made by the BJP seven months back – before coming to power – remain unfulfilled till date.

“Prices of commodities have not come down…they haven’t flushed out illegal Bangladeshi citizens, they haven’t brought back black money deposited in foreign banks. On the contrary, they have stopped fresh recruitments in the country,” Gogoi said.

Gogoi questioned" where is the Aacha Din" promised by Prime Minister rendra Modi.

He alleged that the BJP was playing to the hands of capitalists. “The recent ordince on land acquisition shows the party is not for the poor farmers. Only the businessman of Fancy Bazar stands to gain under the BJP rule,” he said.

Gogoi also charged the BJP of “hijacking” Mahatma Gandhi, who was killed by an “RSS man”.

AICC general secretary CP Joshi described the BJP as a betrayer and said “the country was being ruled by one person who does not believe in democracy.” “The BJP is dividing the society on commul lines. We want to take along all sections of people and unite the country. We need policies for development. Has the BJP government announced any such policy so far? They just know to talk,” Joshi said.

State Congress president Anjan Dutta said it was because of the BJP’s “deception” that people have thronged the rally in thousands.

“We have to strengthen the hands of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. All the 28,280 booth committees of the party in the State should hold regular meetings and prepare themselves to take on the BJP in the ensuing civil polls,” Duta said.
