Congress can only make promise: Nitin Gadkari

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR, April 1: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari held Congress responsible for the present condition of the country.  Addressing a public meeting here on Thursday, Minister of Road and Transport said, “Since we got independence, we have been listening to two-word catchphrase of Congress – garaibi hatao (remove poverty). From Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to Rahul Gandhi, all seem to enjoy in making promises only to break them in future.” He pointed out that Congress has been ruling the country for long 50 years and yet development has remained only a mirage.

Gadkari also added that Assam needs immediate development projects so that the evils of poverty, unemployment and a gamut of other intricate problems can be solved. He also served as the president of the party for three years and therefore he is acquainted with the working and ideology of the party very well. “Congress is only capable of making promises. They do not adhere to principles of dedicated service towards the tion. In Barak Valley, there is dearth of schools, teachers, and proper medical facilities. Road conditions are also worse. Once people put their faith in BJP, they will realize the party’s ability to perform,” he added.

He assured that the state will have concrete roads and within 50 years, road problem will cease to exist. He highlighted that in 2011, 403 projects were pending and by now only 11 projects need to be implemented. Gadkari said that various projects related to river Barak, Farakkha Power Project have been taken into consideration, which will benefit the farmers and fishermen of the valley.

Gadkari accused the Congress government of “robbing” the state of its wealth and mismagement of its tural resources. He further added that having a humble background makes him a favourite among the masses and so he can easily understand the problems of the poor. He urged everyone present to vote for BJP and realize the changes it brings. He promised to change Assam at any cost.

Dilip Kumar Paul also addressed the gathering and taking a swipe at his Congress opponent Bithika Dev said, “I have noticed that Congress is not sending their candidate on the field for campaigning. I am confused who is representing their party – Bithika Dev or Sushmita Dev. It seems that Sushmita Dev is contesting the elections on behalf of Bithika Dev.”
