Dibrugarh, June 6: Dibrugarh District Congress Committee (DDCC) held a mass demonstration on Wednesday in front of the DC office against the BJP-led coalition government of Assam, and submitted memoranda to that effect to the President and the Governor, urging them to take appropriate steps. In a copy of the memorandum released by DDCC, the members accused the government of misrule and ill-governance. To begin with, the State government has been slammed in the wake of the general price rise in general and skyrocketing fuel prices in particular. Its inability to safeguard the poor and vulnerable from the evils of price rise has been highlighted, and allegations have been levelled at the government of increasing the land revenue inordinately at the expense of the farmers and commoners.
The BJP-led government has also been accused of polarizing the society on religious lines, and tampering with the historic Assam Accord. Furthermore, the members of DDCC have also pilloried the move of the state government to support the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, terming it a threat to the very existence of the Assamese identity. Moreover, accusations were also pronounced that the government was destroying the Panchayati Raj System by not holding Panchayat elections on time, and that it was not working in accordance with the Supreme Court guidelines regarding NRC.
