SILCHAR: A Congress delegation led by sitting MP Sushmita Dev and Congress municipal commissioners of Silchar submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Laya Madduri, opposing the recent developments in connection with the Gandhi Bagh Park here on Friday. It is to be mentioned here that the Silchar Municipality Board (SMB) recently decided to build an amusement park in Gandhi Bagh, excluding the area of Children’s Park, Gandhi Bhawan and Jatiya Vyam Vidyalaya.

However, Congress has been opposing it from the very beginning. Former Congress municipality chairman Tamal Kanti Banik was the first to oppose it. He alleged that the decision was taken without a board meeting.

However, the present Silchar Municipal Board chairman – Niharendra Narayan Tagore – clarified that the decision was taken after the conduction of a full fledged board meeting. It was mentioned in the memorandum that the said project under PPP (Private Pubic Partnership) scheme by Silchar Municipality will distort the rich history and heritage that the park bears. The proposed amusement park will have an open float side, high speed body slide, cloud theme rain dance, crazy river, food court, indoor sports, cricket pitch, wave pool, 7 platform water play system, mushroom umbrella, boating facility on Sap Nala, pendulum slide, multipurpose hall among others. A car parking, a commercial building and a star hotel are also in the pipeline.
