Silchar: Congress is spurring up to take up the challenge of the opposition for the Silchar Lok Sabha seat which will go to polls on April 18. As a part of its strategy, all the wings of the party, NSUI, Youth Congress and Mahila Congress, have been activated to reach out to the people in all the seven constituencies of Cachar. Leaders and workers have been stirred up from the block, mandal and district levels for mass contact and door to door approach with the message of change for a resurgent India. The thrust will be on development, communal harmony, solidarity and integrity. “We won this seat in 2014. We will win in 2019 and Sushmita Dev will continue to rein in,” said Partha Ranjan Charaborty, a frontline vanguard of Congress.

Chakraborty reminded Sushmita Dev has made a place of distinction for herself by her performance in and outside Parliament and crowned with the honour of being the best parliamentarian. After the demise of her illustrious father, Sontosh Mohan Dev, distinguished leader, the mantle fell on her to lead the party. She has remained above all controversy and is the unanimous choice of district Congress for Lok Sabha. Chakraborty taking a dig at BJP said, “Ours is a party not of ambitious leaders but of dedicated workers. We work in cohesion and commitment.”

Leaders and workers will reach out to people both in urban and rural areas to demolish the myth of development under Sarbananda Sonowal government. The East West Corridor is still dragging its feet. Silchar to be developed as a smart city is still a dream. There is crisis of drinking water across the district of Cachar. 90% water treatment plants initiated during Congress rule are closed. Panisagar water treatment plant in Dholai is inoperative for the last one year, affecting 500 families. Water crisis has hit many areas of this town while Silchar municipal board is busy with blueprint of multiplex and hotel to play havoc with the greenery which is at its tether end. Partha Ranjan Chakraborty said, “We have prepared a list of public grievances on their feedbacks to tell the masses the hoax of ‘Acche Din.”

“We have many salvos in our ammo to fire to debunk the promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserted Chakraborty. What about the deposit of Rs 3 lakh in one’s bank account, jobs to 2 crore youths every year, repatriation of Vijaya Mallya, Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi who ran away with crores of rupees by duping banks, demolition of detention camps, debt clearance for farmers, 40 lakh NRC left outs with uncertainty looming large over them.” Narendra Modi is busy with ‘man ki baat’, foreign trips on which Rs 33000 crore has been spent. Foreign policy is a failure. Kashmir is burning. NDA is a failure on all fronts. BJP leaders have to answer to all these questions before appealing for vote to people, Chakraborty felt.

It is this cohesiveness and dedication which has bolstered up Congress to retain the prestigious seat and BJP has been the main challenge. Common people are disillusioned with BJP and the reasons are not far to seek, pointed out the ace Congress leader who has led the party in many poll battles since the 80’s. He described this election as crucial as it will be a turning point to usher in an era, free from envy, hatred and fear which has greatly disturbed the monolithic fabric of the country. “If we come back to power, farmers will not have to commit suicide, pensioners will get fair deal, jobless to get jobs, women will no more be subjected to violence, black money to be brought back stashed in foreign banks. It will be justice for all,” said a confident Chakraborty.
