Congress To Bring Over One Lakh People To Rahul Gandhi’s Rally

GUWAHATI: The Opposition Congress is pulling out all the stops to bring over one lakh people to the Rahul Gandhi’s mass rally scheduled to be held in the city on February 26.

The February 26 rally slated to be held at the playground of College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara is being dubbed as the grand start of the Congress’s campaign for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. Leaders of the allies of the previous UPA regime at the Centre will also be present and address the rally to exhort the people to defeat the ruling BJP.

The Congress has already released short videos on various issues pertaining to Assam, ranging from the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 to the alleged failure of various government schemes to counter the ruling BJP. It has also released election songs and is taking out cycle rallies in various parts of the State.

“All district and booth level committees have been asked to bring maximum number of people and party supporters to the February 26 rally. The people of Assam have seen enough of Narendra Modi and his false promises. Now the people want to listen to Rahul Gandhi. We are expecting a huge spontaneous crowd at the Khanapara rally,” a senior APCC leader said.

During his visit on February 26, Gandhi will also hold a meeting with the North East Coordination Committee (NECC) to strategies the party's campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.He will also address a huge booth-level meeting at Khanapara. Rahul will hold the NECC meeting, which will be attended by all PCC and Congress Legislature Party leaders and the party's district presidents. The participants will chalk out the party's election campaign strategy for the Lok Sabha polls

The NECC, which comprises PCCs of all the eight NE States, including Sikkim, was recently reconstituted to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. It is led by former Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma.
