'Congress using religious card'

From a correspondent

Shillong, Feb 11: With the electioneering in Meghalaya gaining momentum, top brass of tiol parties are lining up to address the people of the State in general and their party workers in particular.

On Sunday, senior BJP leader and MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy addressed the party workers in the city.

Rudy called upon the people of the State to vote the BJP to power, so that Meghalaya and Central Government could work collectively for the much needed development in the State.

Urging its party workers to ensure that the BJP capture power in the State, Rudy came down heavily at the ruling Congress in Meghalaya for using the ‘religious card’.

The BJP MP said that the Congress was raking up religious issues to cover up the party’s failure on the developmental front. Rudy said the Congress has failed on all fronts when it comes to development of the state. “Therefore the Congress is raking up religious issues,” Rudy said.

The BJP leader also sounded confident when he said that the BJP would do well to upstage the ruling Congress in Meghalaya and claimed that the saffron party would create history by having the first Chief Minister in Meghalaya.

“People of Meghalaya want change as there has been no development under the Congress. The Congress was in power here and the UPA at the Centre, but still there was no sign of any development,” Rudy said.
