SHILLONG, July 7: The Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has had a meeting with the state leaders of the BJP pertaining to the by-election which will be held at South Tura constituency and also requested them to support him as a consensus candidate of the coalition Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.

The leaders of the BJP which met the Chief Minister included BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh, Health Minister AL Hek beside other members of the party.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the CM, Hek said, “We had discussed the matter concerning the by-election in South Tura and the Chief Minister has expressed the need for all MDA partners to support only once candidate in the by-election.”

However, Hek said that the party has made it clear to the Chief Minister that any decision on this matter has to be first taken up with members and leaders of the state BJP before a final decision is taken. He said that the BJP will also have to discuss this matter with Billykid Sangma a BJP candidate form South Tura constituency who came in second in the assembly polls held on February earlier this year.

“We need to hear his (Billykid) views and opinion and also discuss this with him before a decision is finally decided,” he said adding that suggestions has been made to the BJP state president to immediate call for a party meeting to discuss on South Tura.

It may be reminded that the BJP has already extended its support to the NPP candidate Martin M Danggo who will be contesting the by-election from Ranikor constituency.
