Construction of Dispur PS hits land roadblock

Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 8 : There is no dearth of instances of Government land being handed over to individuals by flouting and bending standing norms in Guwahati where the Government is facing the problem of land for one of its important installations - Dispur Police Station. There are as many as four police stations and three outposts that have been working from rented accommodations in Guwahati. They are Hatigaon Police Station, Gitanagar Police Station, Satgaon Police Station, Fatasil Ambari Police Station, Udalbakra outpost, Bhagaduttapur outpost and Malaigaon-Gaushala outpost. Construction works of some of the police stations and outposts are going on under the MOITRI - Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image - scheme. Under this scheme, while Jalukbari outpost is to get a new building, Bashishta and Azara police stations are to get their existing buildings renovated. The construction of Jalukbari outpost and the renovation of Bashistha and Azara police stations are going on under the phase-I of the MOITRI scheme. Lined up for the phase-II of the MOITRI scheme in Guwahati are Gitanagar Police Station, Hatigaon Police Station and Dispur Police Station. However, uncertainty hovers over the fate of Dispur Police Station as land for it has not been found as yet. Seemingly there is no dearth of land in Guwahati.
