Construction of road from 13 mile sanctioned: HANM

SHILLONG, Jan 17: In a major boost to the people of 25 villages under Ri Bhoi district, the work order for the construction of 5 km road from 13 mile, Byrnihat to Killing village was sanctioned by the state government at an amount of Rs. 4, 50 crore.

This was informed by the leaders of the Hynniewtrep Achik tiol Movement (HANM), Women’s wing, who recently collected the work order from the PWD department which was issued on August 31, 2016.

Stating that it was owing to the HANM Women’s wing determition and hard work that this road construction got materialize, HANM leader said “We carried out the hunger strike for 9 nights and 10 days and demanded the road construction in the area which was left uttended for 27 years, which compelled the authority concern to issue the work order.”

Informing that all this time the people of the area have to use the Assam road and have to face many hardships and harassment , she further said the construction work which will be started within this month is targeted to be completed within 18 months time.

She added , “The road construction from 13 mile – Killing village will passed through Umtyrnga village which consist of over 25 villages and the road construction will be undertaken by three contractor mely Lester Syiemlieh, L Manik Wahlang and T Nongkhlaw.”

Lauding the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma who kept his promise, HM leader has also expressed their gratitude towards the Minister in charge PWD, the Chief Engineer, Engineer of the Nongpoh Division, including the Rangbah Shnong and all the residents of the area who supported them in their hunger strike.

She further said the Movement urges all the three contractors to speed up the construction process keeping in mind that they do it conscientiously and as per the PWD rules and guidelines.
