Construction work of Tangla-Bhergaon road draws flak

From a Correspondent

TANGLA, Jan 10: The construction project of the Tangla-Bhergaon road to Gandhi gar via Tangla CHC, the foundation stone of which was laid on November 13, 2016 by BTC EM Jagadish Sarkar, has drawn strong resentment. The earlier concrete road, which was in a dilapidated condition for years, had to be reconstructed.

But to people’s utter dismay, the road was considered for earth filling and sand gravelling under SCA fund 2015-16. The heaps of filled earth have made the road dusty, making it extremely unhealthy for commuters and patients of Tangla CHC who use this road. The road is the lifeline for the people of greater Tangla area as hundreds of patients from the neighbouring villages and tea gardens are brought for treatment to Tangla CHC. School and college students and businessmen who use the road have expressed strong resentment over such a project which has only made people suffer.

Students of Paschim Tangla LP School and Gandhigar Primary School located on the road have to cover up their faces while coming to school and going back home. The school magement has also expressed strong resentment over this.

The residents of the area have alleged that the earth filling and sand gravelling of the earlier concrete road was a gimmick for siphoning off public fund. Though the project estimate has not been mentioned, sources confirmed that an amount of Rs 50 lakh has been sanctioned for the project. The local residents have voiced strong resentment towards the BTC authority and have demanded  immediate enquiry into the project as to why  the  concrete road was considered for earth filling and sand gravelling instead of a concrete road project.
