Contraband supari seized at Guwahati Rly Station

GUWAHATI, June 12: Posing a challenge to the formal trade, the Guwahati railway station is emerging as a major transit point for illicit drugs and contraband goods as the RPF and the GRP forces have been persistently recovering huge quantity of such tiptoed commodities. Although the railway authority has been boosting up its vigilance round the clock at Guwahati railway station, the network of unscrupulous traders are yet to be reduced and thwarted. Under this given situation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), following an inputs from the Shillong division of the Custom on Monday night, seized a huge quantity of contraband supari from the Avadh Assam Express at Guwahati railway.

After receiving the tip off, as soon as the train reached Guwahati the officers on duty accompanied by other staff attended the said VPU and unloaded total 147 bags contraband Supari. In the mean time, inspector of the Custom preventive force, NER Shillong K Doungel, along with other staff attended the spot and seized the materials. Total value of recovered supari was assumed to be worth Rs- 31,48,622/-. The recovered supari was taken by the Custom, NER, Shillong on Tuesday. Notably, few months back, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence also seized a huge quantity of contraband supari from Guwahati railway station besides other cases of recovery from time to time.
