Silchar, May 2: In protest against the flaws in NRC update, the Citizens’ Rights Protection Committee (CRPC) has decided convened a mass convention on May 10 at 11 am in Gandhi Bhawan.  The CRPC stated that the All Assam Students’ Association (AASU) and Gasangram Parishad had alleged that there are around 40 lakh illegal immigrants present in Assam who are not bofide citizens, but, have enlisted their mes in the voter electoral rolls illegally and enjoying all sort of facilities and benefits like bofide citizens of the country.   They had also launched a movement against the illegal influx which resulted in the signing of the ‘Assam Accord’ in 1985. But, yet the issue of ‘D’ voters and illegal immigrants is not resolved in the state, said the statement issued by CRPC.  “With a view to correct the anomalies, the Supreme Court ordered that the NRC update be completed within January 2016. But the preconditions prescribed for the update procedure seems against the non-Assamese especially the Bengali community staying in Assam,” said the statement adding that the linguistic minorities in Assam are going through a state of panic and are also being harassed on a regular basis by the administration regarding their citizenship status.  CRPC has decided to bring this issue to the notice of the authorities concerned. The Committee wants an error free NRC update. It was informed to the media-persons by the members of the reception committee of CRPC, Kiranendu Dutta Choudhury, Mojammil Ali Laskar and Soumitra th among others today.
