Copper me plates at Bodoland Movement Cemetery stolen!

KOKRAJHAR, June 6: All the copper me plates of Bodoland Movement martyrs from Bodoland Movement Cemetery at Debargaon, 6 km north of Kokrajhar town have been allegedly stolen.

The Bodoland Movement Cemetery was laid by BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary in 2004 and the ambitious project of Mohilary was iugurated on February 10, 2013. The cemetery has statues of ten prominent Bodo leaders including the founder chairman of BLT, Bir Chilagang Basumatary, former ABSU president Jwhwlao Swmbla Basumatary, former Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Subungthinin Thandwi Bineswar Brahma and other frontal Bodo leaders. Besides, there were over 1600 crypts made of copper in the me of martyrs of Bodoland movement who laid their lives for the cause of the Bodos.

When asked about the theft of the copper-made me plates, local people said the thieves stole the me plate within a week. They said they informed some influential persons about the theft but no precautiory measures were taken by the authority concerned. Sources said there were seven employees to look after the Bodoland Movement Cemetery on the basis of fixed pay but they had been abstaining from duty since many days due to non-release of salary. The thieves took the opportunity of the absence of the employees. Only four me plates out of over 1,600 are left. A case has reportedly been registered at Kokrajhar police station.
