SHILLONG, Oct 14: Around 150 traffic violators attended the two-hour counseling session on ‘Road Safety Education and Counseling’ organized by the Traffic Police today at Sadar Police Station in the city in compliance with the recommendation of the ‘Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety’.

Such counseling session will be held twice a month for two hours in order to explain about the various traffic violation and rules like driving-without helmet, failure to put on seat belt etc and the traffic violators in the future are expected not to violate traffic rules again and also to spread awareness to other people. “Some of the things we have done previously like creating awareness about traffic rules. Such programmes have not entirely been in vain even though accidents is still a daily occurrence especially in the city,” Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District M. H Kharkrang told newsmen after the conclusion of the counseling session.

“The people needs to understand and learn more about traffic rules and regulations since some people don’t even know that speaking on a phone while driving is also an offence since it goes against traffic regulations,” he said. Regarding drunk driving and illegal liquor vendors in roadsides, SP City Vivek Syiem said that the police have been conducting constants raids every day.
