Countdown for ISRO’s GSLV-F11/ Gsat-7A Mission begins

Guwahati: The ISRO countdown for Gsat-7A begins as the space research agency’s fourth generation launch vehicle with three stages GSLV-F11 is all set to inject Gsat-7A into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).The Gsat-7A, on being launched on Wednesday, will be the 35th communication satellite of the country. As stated by the Indian Space Research Organisation, the Gsat-7A will provide communication capability to users in Ku-band.

The satellite to be launched by ISRO on December 19 is designed with a lifespan of eight years. The satellite will be launched at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

Of the three stages, the first stage comprises four liquid strap-ons and a solid rocket motor. The second stage has high thrust engine using liquid fuel and the third and final stage has Cryogenic Upper Stage.

As pre-scheduled, the 26-hour countdown for the launch of ISRO’s communication satellite Gsat-7A has already begun at 2.10 pm on Tuesday. The rocket launch will take place from the second launch pad at Sriharikota at 4.10pm on Wednesday.

ISRO statement says that the satellite Gsat-7A weighs 2,250kg and is meant to provide communication capabilities in ku-band to the users. The primary aim behind the launch of the satellite is to provide enhanced coverage to the Indian Army.

With this launch, the GSLV-F11 will be the 13th GSLV flight and seventh with an indigenous cryogenic engine.
