Counting of votes conducted peacefully in Hailakandi

Hailakandi: Counting of votes of three Assembly constituencies of Hailakandi district falling under HP 1 Karimganj (SC) constituency passed off peacefully. The counting of votes which began at 8.15 am at Government VMHS School ended at around 4.30 pm. Tallying of VVPATs slips with EVMs continued till late evening.

District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli and Election Observer, Radha Kishore Jha supervised the entire counting process. A heavy security cover was thrown in and around the counting campus with Rapid Action Force personnel taking vantage positions since the wee hours.

Night curfew is in force under the jurisdiction of Hailakandi Sadar Police Station areas. Under the three Assembly constituencies of Hailakandi, Katlicherra and Algapur, AIUDF candidate Radheshyam Biswas polled 1,83,743 votes while BJP candidate Kripanath Mallah got 1,66,366 votes. Congress candidate Swarup Das was in a distant third position securing only 22,985 votes.

Deputy Commissioner Jalli thanked the people for their support and cooperation, the political parties, the polling personnel and the security forces in conducting the elections peacefully.
