KALAIGAON/ TANGLA, Feb 11: One Bakul Rabha (35) and his wife Saru Rabha (25) were allegedly gunned down by militants at around 11.30 pm on Friday night.
According to sources, Bakul Rabha was an inhabitant of Samuwapara Dhuptala under Tangla police station who shifted and started residing at Chengapara under Kalaigaon police station four years ago. The neighbours did not know anything about his job and persol life but it is said that an unidentified person used to come to his house regularly. Sources said that they heard screams at around 11.30 pm last night. After that, they heard the sound of firing and it continued for more than half-an-hour. Later, they saw that fire had gutted the house.
The neighbours were frightened and did not come out. After sunrise, they came out and saw that everything had burnt down and only some bones of two bodies were found. The VDP of the village informed the matter to the Kalaigaon police station. Kalaigaon police and SDPO of Bhergaon arrived on the spot and began enquiry. Police found 28 rounds of empty cartridges of AK-47 rifle from the spot.
Rajveer Singh, Superintendent of Police of Udalguri, also arrived. Deputy Commissioner Sadha Hojai arrived too. Magistrate Dithakanda Hazarika visited the spot and sent the bodies for postmortem. The army was also called in.
Though police sources did not divulge any information regarding the involvement of any terror outfit, special sources pointed that it could be the handiwork of NDFB (S) or ULFA (I) who have a strong presence in the area. The sources also divulged that the deceased Bakul Rabha was a history-sheeter having past crimil records. He was allegedly acting as a source for security forces and militant outfits had attempted to assassite him in the past but the attempts were foiled.
The incident is also mysterious as none of the neighbours called the police at night, even after hearing bullet sounds and a house was burning so close.
