Bongaigaon, June 15: Protesting against the anti-farmer policy of the Central and State governments, the CPI (M) Manikpur local committee of Bongaigaon district staged a demonstration on Thursday in Manikpur Bazar area.

Rabin Das, Bongaigaon district secretary of CPI (M), said that a large number of farmers were compelled to commit suicide daily in India due to the government’s anti-farmer policy. “This BJP government does not solve the problems of farmers. Instead of solving problems, they order police to fire at farmers. In our State also, many farmers have been affected this year due to government supply of defective seeds of Iri rice. We demand compensation for the affected farmers. We also demand construction of a cold storage in Manikpur, fixing minimum rate of every type of crop, supplying high quality seeds to the farmers and stopping eviction,” he said. They submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Block Development Officer of Manikpur.
