CRPF commando from Meghalaya killed in encounter

Boko, June 8: Utpal Rabha (27) from Thorikakona Para village, Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya and a CoBRA commando of the CRPF was killed during an encounter with Naxals in Jharkhand’s Saraikela area on Thursday. The encounter began at 7 am at the Dalbhaga- Arki area of Saraikela-Kharsawan district in Jharkhand. A joint team of the 209th Battalion of the CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) and the Jharkhand Police had gone for an operation to the administrative headquarter of Saraikela-Kharsawan district, around 135 km from the state capital.

Today CRPF DIG CT Venkatesh from Guwahati, CRPF commandant of 120 battalion BC Dalbehera and Assistant commandant Sasikant from Tura, CRPF Deputy commandant of 175 battalion SS Somawanshi from Guwahati, SP of North Garo Hills district SR Marak, DC North Garo Hills district Sibhi C Sadhu and villagers paid floral tributes laced with a gun salute to martyred cop during his funeral at his village. While, more than 2000 villagers attended the funeral, the CRPF authority provided immediate assistant of Rs 50,000 to his father Brojen Rabha. CRPF will also pay compensation of Rs 33 lakh to his family along with pension. The Jharkhand and Meghalaya governments will also give ex-gratia of Rs 17.25 lakh and Rs 1 lakh to his family. “Utpal was a very brave boy and he always led his team during anti-naxals operations. They are in all 33 commandos with Jharkhand Police. Very soon CoBRA will launch more operations in the area,” said Mijanur Rahman, CRPF jawan and Utpal Rabha’s colleague.
