CRPF jawans, VDP secretary apprehended for extortion

GOLAGHAT, August 27:  Golaghat police apprehended two CRPF jawans and one person on Thursday for allegedly demanding extortion from a teacher in Golaghat.   

The CRPF jawans have been identified as Haripad Gogoi and Debanda Daimary and VDP secretary of Kathiatoli village Altaf Hussain.

Sources said that Lakhi Urang of Kathiatoli village, an employee of the education department received a phone call from an unknown person on August 23. The unknown person demanded a huge amount of money and threatened to kill his family members if he failed to pay the money.

Urang informed the VDP secretary about it and later on to the Superintendent of Police, Golaghat seeking intervention and protection for his family members. Filly, it was revealed that the VDP secretary allegedly helped two CRPF jawans to demand extortion money from Lakhi Urang.
