Cultural fest to show cause rich traditions of Ri-Bhoi

SHILLONG, Feb 18: The first ever Umsning cultural festival scheduled on February 23rd and 24th is expected to show case the rich and diverse traditions and culture of Ri-Bhoi district. Ri-Bhoi district located in the northern slopes of Meghalaya has remained largely unexposed even it is known for the its innumerous traditions, culture, food habbits and folklore.

It is on this basis that the Durbar Shnong Umsning-B conceptualised the idea that can showcase the heritage of the area, stated R.Marwein the chairman of the upcoming festival, adding, “The festival also aims at preserving the diminishing traditions and cultures in varied forms.” From traditiol dances, folk songs and kitchens with varied local cuisines that will be blended with other modern items, the organizers also aims at selling Ri-Bhoi district as another destition for cultural tourism, Marwein said.

The organizers also said the first ever cultural festival will not be just another festival but to use it as a platform to shape Ri-Bhoi USP in Meghalaya tourism map.
