Cultural hall iugurated at Howraghat

HOWRAGHAT, Feb 21: State HAD Minister Kharsing Engti iugurated a cultural hall constructed under the scheme of BRGF, 2011-12 on Sunday at Howraghat town in presence of local MAC and EM for Social Welfare Department, KAAC, Premala Beypi, Mukul Gogoi, Deputy Commissioner and David K Timung, Project Director, DRDA.

During the building iugural function, land donor, Dr Nigamanda Maithar, local distinguished persons and senior officials of DRDA were present. On the occasion, a public meeting was also organized where many residents of Howraghat town participated.

While addressing the meeting, land donor Dr Nigamanda Maithar thanked HAD Minister Kharsing Engti for fulfilling the long-standing demands of the people of Howraghat. Dr Maithar doted half bigha land in the heart of Howraghat town for the construction of the building which costs around Rs 15 lakh. However, the newly-constructed building has been med as gen Borman Memorial Cultural Hall.

On the other hand, HAD Minister Kharsing Engti highlighted various development schemes. Engti said that the pace of progress would accelerate in the entire Howraghat area after setting up of civil sub-divisiol offices.  Meanwhile, Engti urged all sections of people to be united.

In his speech, Deputy Commissioner Mukul Gogoi emphasized right usage of electricity. While explaining about less power consumption by Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs, Gogoi reiterated that government had already adopted a decision to make available LED bulbs for every household. People will avail LED bulbs at a low price. These LED bulbs will be available in every fair price shop and the scheme will be launched officially in the last week of February, Gogoi said. People might assuage the high tariff of power after using the LED bulbs, Gogoi added.

On the other hand, at the end of the iugural function, David K Timung, PD, DRDA was subjected to a volley of questions by media persons on the incomplete group housing of IYA and alleged irregularities in different schemes under DRDA.  Replying to questions, Timung admitted to look into the matter promptly.
