Curtains come down on 45th Karbi Youth Festival in Diphu

Diphu: The six-day 45th Karbi Youth Festival (KYF), the oldest ethnic festival of Northeast India, concluded at Karbi People’s Hall, Taralangso, Diphu on Tuesday. The six-day festival witnessed various competitions on traditional dances, songs, music, sports and craft. KAAC EM Horensing Bey was president of the reception committee while Dorsing Ronghang was the general secretary of the reception committee. Over 5,000 members from different cultural background participated in the festival.

The festival was organized by Karbi Cultural Society (KCS).The cultural and artistic carnival is held in the foothills of the village Taralangso every year. The centre of attraction for the festival was a decorative traditional earring ‘Nothengpi’ built with bamboo at the departmental exhibition site. Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang attended as the chief guest at the closing ceremony.

Addressing the mammoth gathering at Singmirjeng open stage, Ronghang assured the Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) to hand over the Karbi People’s Hall, Taralangso to the KAAC Art and Culture Department for development, to construct a boundary wall and to install CCTV cameras around Taralangso for security. During the festival, various ethnic groups were also invited to present their traditional dances which added more colour to the festival.
