Curtains down on Sanmilan, 2015

Dibrugarh, November 28: SANMILAN 2015 concluded with a lot of fun and rejoicing with the event Autumn Aura recently.

Altogether 110 student and corporate delegates participated in the three-day intellectual convergence. The iugural session had the keynote address given by M P Bezbaruah, former secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.  SK Baruah, Director (Fince), Numaligarh Refinery Limited was also present as the guest of honour. Other dignitaries in the iugural session included the Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University (D.U), Prof. A K Buragohain, the Registrar, Dibrugarh University, Prof. M N Dutta and the Dean, School of Commerce and Magement Science, Prof. A B Rajkonwar. Prof. Rajkonwar is also the Director, Centre for Magement Studies, Dibrugarh University which organizes SANMILAN.

The Bhubaneswar Barman Memorial Award was also presented in the iugural session to  Rajpreet Kaur of the 2013 MBA (FT) Batch of the Centre which carried a cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy and a certificate. It is given to the topper amongst the girl students of the MBA (FT) programme of the Centre. The souvenir, which is a publication of the convergence, was released by the Registrar, Dibrugarh University.

The theme of the SANMILAN 2015 was ‘Commerce, Culture & Connectivity: Bridging NE India with SE Asia’. A panel discussion called Manthan was held on the first day to discuss on the theme which had  Anup Kr. Baruah from NRL,  Pranjal Kr. Phukan from BCPL and  Ranjan Kr. Baruah from North East Youth Foundation as panelists. The panel discussion was moderated by Prof. D Chakraborty, Head, Department of Economics, Dibrugarh University. The second event of the day was Straight Talk where  Manoj Jalan, Director, Jalan Tea Group was present as an expert to answer the questions from the audience. Straight Talk was moderated by the Chief Coorditor of SANMILAN 2015, Himadri Barman.

The competitive events that were organized as part of SANMILAN 2015 included BizMantra – the Open Business Quiz, Super Investor – the Investment Portfolio Competition, Khoj – the Treasure Event, AdLab – the Integrated Marketing Communications Competition, Empresa – the Business Plan Competition, Agni – the Student Paper Presentation Competition, Clicke – the Photo Documentary Competition and Rhythm – the Singing Competition. A total prize money of Rs. 73,500/- was given in these events apart from trophies and certificates.

The student delegates that participated in the events were from Dibrugarh University; Gauhati University; galand University; TISS, Guwahati; J B College, Jorhat; Women’s College, Tinsukia; and Jorhat Engineering College. The corporate delegates were from OIL, Duliajan and J P Morgan Chase. A major attraction of SANMILAN 2015 was Shrisiti – the Arts & Crafts Exhibition which generated some revenue for the organizers through the sale of exhibited items.
