Cyclonic storm uproots thousands of trees and damages hundreds of houses in Kamrup district

Boko: Massive damage took place as a cyclonic storm hit the Boko legislative constituency in Kamrup district on Saturday night around 7.45 pm. Thousands of trees were uprooted and hundreds of houses were damaged due to the storm. Meanwhile, an uprooted tree fell on a passenger Traveller bus at Dighli village which was going from Dhupdhara in Goalpara district towards Nagarbera in Kamrup district. The bus was damaged but the passengers had a narrow escape.

The cyclonic storm wreaked havoc not only in Kamrup district but also in the border areas of Kamrup and Goalpara districts. Sakhati Bishnu Rabha Lower Primary School under Boko LAC was totally damaged large uprooted trees fell on the school building. The Dhupdhara weekly market area was also damaged in the storm.

Panchami Rabha, General Member of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, said that the storm was very strong and affected Sakhati, Bondapara, Khatajuli, Jamlai and Kalyanpur under Kamrup district and Dhupdhara, Dighli and Bagdoba in Goalpara district. Most of the houses were damaged and household roofs were blown away to the paddy fields due to the cyclonic storm. Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati has issued daily weather report and warned that for the next five days, a thunderstorm with gusty wind speed (40-50) km/per hour will blow over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
