Dacoits Shoot Woman and Loot Cash, Gold Ornaments in Nagaon

NAGAON: A gang of dacoits, well equipped with sophisticated arms and ammunition, shot dead a woman and looted cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh from a house at Bogoriguri village under Juria police station on Saturday night. According to sources, the victim has been identified as Hapseena Begum, wife of Fakar Uddin, a jute businessman of Bogoriguri village in Juria area. The sources added that on Saturday night, a six-member gang of dacoits with sophisticated arms and ammunition entered the house of Fakar Uddin and attempted to loot cash as well as other precious items like gold ornaments. When Fakar’s wife Hapseena Begum tried to resist the gang, one of them opened fire at her from a close distance. As a result, the woman sustained severe injuries in her chest and fell on the floor.

The gang immediately looted cash and gold ornaments and fled away. Some neighbours, after listening to the sound of firing, entered the house and found Hapseena Begum lying on the floor. They immediately sent the injured woman to the nearest hospital and also informed Juria police. The doctor on duty declared her brought dead after a preliminary check-up. Juria Police, as well as Nagaon Superintendent of Police Sankarbrata Raimedhi, rushed to the spot. Police have registered a case and launched a search operation for the dacoits. SP Raimedhi is monitoring the entire operation from Juria.

In connection with the incident, police have arrested the prime accused, Farkun Ali and picked up other dacoits of the area. The dacoits who were picked up have been identified as Billal Hussain and Omar Farook of Juria.
