Darrang District Gets Infrastructure Support

GUWAHATI: In line with the government of India’s initiative to support comparatively under-developed districts of the country, Darrang district received an infrastructural boost as Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Guwahati Refinery provided various facilities to the ‘aspirational district’ on October 14. As part of the support, Guwahati Refinery has funded for construction of 20 toilet blocks of girls’ schools, a maternity ward building in the district besides providing two garbage transporting vans to be used by Mangaldoi Municipal Board (MMB) and Kharupetia Town Committee of the district.

The toilet blocks will be constructed along with drinking water supply facilities at 20 nos. of RMSA schools of the district, while the maternity ward will be constructed at Garukhuti Mini Primary Health Centre. Along with the garbage transporting vans, 35 garbage bins will also be provided to the district authorities.

This was announced at a function held at Mangoldoi District library on October 14 which was attended by MP Ramen Deka as the Chief Guest, along with Siphajhar MLA Binanda Kumar Saikia, Mangoldoi MLA Gurujyoti Das besides Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman and Executive Director (Guwahati Refinery) Jogen Barpujari for handing over the cheques for the funds and keys of the vans.

In his speech, MP Ramen Deka applauded the efforts from Guwahati Refinery and expressed gratitude for providing the support to the district and the people living in it. He said that the initiative will provide the necessary support to the Darrang district authorities to improve its development.

During the function, MLAs Binanda Kumar Saikia and Gurujyoti Das also acknowledged Guwahati Refinery for carrying out the initiative in the district. In his speech, Guwahati Refinery Executive Director Jogen Barpujari reiterated the commitment of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. and Guwahati Refinery towards uplifting the lives of the marginalized section of the society. He also gave an account of the Refinery’s other CSR initiatives in terms of employability through skill development, health and sanitation, expansion of education, provision of drinking water and others.
