DD India to be broadcasted in Bangladesh & South Korea

Guwahati: In order to boost India's relations with its South Asian countries, the Government of India had signed agreements with Bangladesh and South Korea under which Doordarshan India will be available in those countries, while their state channels will be shown on DD Free Dish.

Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar said India has entered into an agreement with Bangladesh and South Korea where DD India will be shown in both the countries.

Addressing the media in Delhi today, Javadekar said that in return, Bangladesh official channel will also be available in India on DD Free Dish. He added that India has also entered into an agreement with South Korea where DD India will be shown in that country and South Korea's KBS channel will be available in India. Javadekar said, this mutual cooperation with neighbouring countries is very important and the decision will build up a mutual relationship.

The move is part of a healthy cultural exchange in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Act East policy, Javadekar informed.

The government has also approved the proposal of Prasar Bharati for making available the KBS World, an English 24x7 channel of the government of the Republic of South Korea on the DD Free Dish for the Indian viewers. Simultaneously, people of South Korea would be able to view DD India in their country.

The arrangement with Bangladesh is as a result of an MoU signed between Prasar Bharati and Bangladesh TV (BTV) May 7, 2019.

Details About BTV

Bangladesh Television also is known by the acronym BTV, is the state-owned Television network in Bangladesh. It started broadcasting as Pakistan Television in what was then East Pakistan on 25 December 1964. It was renamed Bangladesh Television after the independence in 1971. Broadcasts in full colour started in 1980. About 2 million televisions receive transmissions from the network's 17 relay stations.

BTV channel is broadcasted from Dhaka. This transmission is relayed to the whole country via local relay stations in major cities of the country.

Details of KBS World

KBS World is a South Korean pay television channel operated by Korean Broadcasting System aimed at international audiences outside South Korea. It was launched on 1 July 2003 and mainly broadcast in Korean, but subtitles in English, Chinese and Malay are also provided.

Apart from the signals from Seoul, there are three separate services operated by KBS's subsidiaries for specific market: the Japanese version of KBS World, operated by KBS Japan, targets Japanese audiences, the Indonesian version of KBS World, operated by OKTN, targets Indonesian audiences, while the American version of KBS World, operated by KBS America, targets Koreans in North and South America.
