Dearth of Transport Hits Commuters In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: With the third phase of election on Tuesday, a total of 577 vehicles have been requisitioned for election use in Kamrup (M). The city buses have reduced drastically in Guwahati city, along with other public carriers causing great inconvenience to the people. The dearth of public transport is affecting the life of the daily commuters, who are unable to make their way to work and other daily chores.

The people who were trying to move to their hometowns in lower Assam to exercise their franchise are faced with a major dilemma and are vexed with the situation. The scarcity of public transport has turned into a chaotic scene in Jalukbari, where people expressed agitation over the problem and raised a hue and cry. Due to the bus shortage, few of the public transports that are running, are seen taking advantage of the situation and doubling their fares. This has caused further annoyance among the public who expressed frustration over the matter.
