Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conveys warm gesture at Siachen Glacier posted soldiers

New Delhi: New-elected Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh makes it reach and meet the Indian soldiers posted on the Siachen Glacier to boost their spirit and there is in fact, much more coming towards the soldiers and their families.

Siachen Glacier, located at a height of 18000-20,000 ft and the temperatures dipping below -50 °Celsius, is known to be one of the toughest posts in the world which are being kept under 24 hours military surveillance by the soldiers of the Indian army. This has very well been realized and felt by the Union Minister for which Singh flew to Siachen on June 3 and made his maiden visit to meet the soldiers. The meeting between the soldiers and the Defence Minister was close and friendly.

The good things coming up after the Siachen visit is that the union minister is to write personal letters to the families of about 8,000 soldiers who are posted on the Siachen Glacier. Being posted at the world’s highest battlefield and then rendering tight security and surveillance is not something so easy for which the defence minister is to write a personalized letter to them.

An official cited, “The minister wanted to connect with the soldiers at a personal level and send a message that they are valued and cared for.” If this is going to be materialized then this will perhaps be the first time that a defence minister will be writing directly to families of soldiers posted on the glacier.

Rajnath Singh later took to Twitter to express his feelings on his maiden visit to Siachen, “Visited a forward post and Siachen base camp today and interacted with the Army personnel serving in this region which is also known as the ‘the highest battlefield in the world.”
