Delay in Chairmen’s appointment, autonomous bodies defunct

AGARTALA, July 17: A stagnation is going on in over two dozens of corporation and boards under the state government some of which are virtually in an defunct condition due to the non-appointment of chairman and executive committees.

In absence of these non-appointed posts the normal activities of autonomous bodies are suffering seriously as these organisations run on the basis of the decision of the Chairman who is the executive head of such bodies. Few thousand employees working in these corporations and boards are also facing uncertainty.

The vacuum created due to en-mass resignation of the chairman and members appointed during the previous governments immediately after the last assembly election results were declared and the BJP-IPFT government was formed.

As per norms in such situations the new government appoints chairman and members as per their choice but the Biplab Deb led government has failed to do so and four months has already lapsed.

So far the state government has appointed chairman of only three corporations, the Tripura Tea Development Corporation, Tripura Industrial Development Corporation and the Tripura Road Transport Corporation.

According to sources, the state government is vacillating over the issue as there are too many aspirants for such posts and tussle between the two partners of the ruling alliance the BJP and IPFT.

As a result of this tussle, the state government could not appoint chairman in 13 Block Development Committees which has been affecting the government activities in the rural areas.
