Delhi Government Urges High Court to Allow Purchase of 500 Buses

New Delhi: The Delhi government on Wednesday requested the High Court to allow it to purchase 500 standard-floor buses that can ply in the city’s outskirts where the roads are poor. The court reserved its order on the plea. The government told a bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice V. Kameswar Rao that the standard-floor buses, proposed to be procured, were disabled-friendly.

These buses have hydraulic lifts, which will help the differently-abled people easily board and deboard. The proposed purchase has been opposed by one Nipun Malhotra, a differently-abled person, who has contended that standard-floor buses were not disabled-friendly, as they were mounted on a truck chassis, and their height made it difficult for such people to board the vehicle.
