ITANAGAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had rejected to take up the murder case of a prominent student leader of East Siang district Ojing Tayeng on December 27, 2018 but the matter was kept in the loop from the deceased family and the people of State till today. Tayeng was brutally attacked by some miscreants at Niti Vihar Road, Itanagar two years ago and later succumbed to his injuries at GNRC Guwahati. Accordingly, a case was registered at Itanagar police station but the investigation by State police was not progressing satisfactorily.

After the failure of State police department to crack the case, the State Government had transferred the case from State Crime Branch (SIT) to CBI to investigate the case but finally ended up with a rejection by the CBI citing the case to ‘very simple in nature’.

Speaking to this daily, North East Human Rights Organization (NEHRO) - Arunachal Pradesh General Secretary Buteng Tayeng said that on July 7, 2018, the news of transferring the case to CBI came from the Chief Ministers Office (CMO), Arunachal Pradesh, prior to elections.”

“The rejection letter was dispatched from CBI, ACB Gauhati on 27/12/2018 but the family members and relatives of the victim were never informed and kept in the dark about the case status,” he said adding that the organization condemns the failure of the State police department and appeal for a specialized investigation to crack the case within three months.
