Demand to repair dilapidated Hatlung Jorhatia Road

A CORRESPONDENT

LAKHIMPUR: Local women of the Hatilung Jorhatia area staged a road blockade demanding the immediate repair of the Hatilung-Jorhatia and NH-15 connecting road in Lakhimpur on Friday. The road has been in deplorable condition since the flood caused by Ranganadi river, after the release of excess water from Ranganadi dam.

At present, the plying of many heavy vehicles along the road in order to get out of North Lakhimpur town through the NH-15, due to non-completion of the Lakhimpur by-pass for seven years, made the road more critical affecting people. Despite consecutive protest programme, the PWD of Lakhimpur has not initiated any step to upgrade the road for the greater interest of the masses.

During agitation programme, the women protesters blocked the road installing bamboo fencing across it. Later, they submitted a memorandum to Lakhimpur DC demanding his effective initiative with regard to construct the road immediately. Further the protesters, by submitting a separate memorandum, demanded the DC to take his step to have three RCC culverts constructed across the Lakhimpur by-pass part, which falls between Hatilung Road and Hatilung Jorhatia Road, as per estimate.
