Demand to set up police outpost in Udalguri district

KALAIGAON: The residents of greater Balipara under Kalaigaon police station in Udalguri district have demanded to set up a police outpost at Balipara Bazar. The people submitted an application to the Superintendent of Police of Udalguri recently and urged the Special Director General of Police to set up the police outpost at Balipara Bazar. According to local people, village Balipara has been identified as sensitive place by the administration. They stated in the application that ULFA leader Bocha Singh was gunned down by security forces at Dakhin Bhokelikanda, 1km from Balipara on February 2, 2009. Kiran Sarma (40) was killed by ULFA militants at Balipara daily bazar on December 3, 2010. After that, Balipara had been identified as sensitive area.

A wanted ULFA leader, Rajen Deka was gunned down in an encounter with Indian Army and Assam Police at Khairabari nearby Balipara on December 1, 2017. Consequently, a temporary police camp had been set up at Balipara and paramilitary forces have also been kept in this camp to maintain peace. But the people urged the authority concerned to set up a permanent police outpost.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police of Udalguri, Rajveer of Udalguri told The Sentinel that he would try to set up the outpost at Balipara.
