Shillong, July 4: An association of land owners and headmen on the two lane National Highway of the Nongstoin-Rambrai-Kyrshai road upto the Meghalaya-Assam border on Wednesday met, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong.

In a letter submitted to Tynsong, the association questioned the handing over of the project under SARDP-NE to the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).

In the letter to the Deputy CM in-charge of PWD (Roads), the association of land owners and headmen informed that the land acquisition process under the project has been initiated by the Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads) after consultation with the stakeholders.

“But in the midst of the process of land acquisition the project has been handed over to the NHIDCL,” publicity secretary of the land owners and headmen association, BR Thabah said. The association, has requested to reconsider the handing over of the project to the NHIDCL.

They pointed out that the up-gradation of Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road to two-lane National Highway 44 – E and 127 – B under SARDP-NE, phase – A has been successfully implemented by National Highway, PWD (Roads), Government of Meghalaya.

“Hence, we may suggest that National Highway, PWD (Roads), Government of Meghalaya is better and acceptable in implementing the project for public interest,” Thabah said.

It is learnt that the progress of the two-lane Nongstoin-Rambrai-Kyrshai road has been approved by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highway on September 25, 2015, after preparation of the DPR by Holtec Company, based in Gurgaon.
