Deputy Commissioner Biswajeet Pegu Identifies 59 ‘Critical’ Polling Stations

GUWAHATI: Out of the 1195 total polling stations, 59 stations are identified to be critical, all of which are in Guwahati West area but none in the East.

At a press communiqué on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Kamrup (M) Biswajeet Pegu informed that 59 polling stations have been declared extremely critical based on previous Lok Sabha election reports, police information, and position in remote areas and some in shadow areas, among other reasons. Seven of stations are in shadow areas which have network issues.

Declaring that every polling station must have AMF (Assural Minimum Facilities), Biswajeet Pegu said, “Sector officers are visiting each 1195 stations and reporting issues of concern. There are 180 school stations without electric connectivity and we have already established temporary connection for each. 20 to 25 polling stations lack drinking water facility which, as we speak, is currently being looked into.”

11 polling station are reportedly on the first floor and Biswajeet Pegu assured special provisions for the PWD (Persons with Disabilities) voters. “40 ramps are under construction to aid people in wheelchairs”, Pegu informed. As the weather has been acting dicey, the polling officers have been ordered to reconstruct almost five to six school stations. The DC further informed that 700 vehicles will be utilized during the elections and concluded by adding that almost all of the election related works have been completed.
