Develop right attitude to cinema, Jahnu Barua urges masses

DIBRUGARH, April 27: “Cinema is beyond entertainment,” noted film maker Jahnu Barua said while addressing the iugural session of the two-day documentary film festival held at Dibrugarh University from Monday.

Baruah appealed to the masses to develop the right attitude as far as this beautiful art-form was concerned. He expressed concern over the lack of proper facility for showing documentary

films across the country and Assam in particular. The film maker also expressed dissatisfaction at the lack of awareness among masses about this powerful medium of communication. He laid stress on changing the mindset of the people and appealed to them to enjoy film as an art form that depicts life in a very aesthetic and beautiful way.

Recollecting his memories of initial years, Barua pointed out how people questioned his motives when he had chosen film making as a career, although he was pleased that things had started changing now. Sharing his experience Barua said that working on Aparupa (the first ever film of Jahnu Barua) was one of the toughest experiences for him as there was no logistic support in those days as today. Barua commented that cinema had the potential to germite the seed of strong character, without which one could not be complete. He also appealed to the masses to watch beautiful documentaries or other films coming up almost on every day basis. The ace cine persolity was interacting with the university students and faculty members.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Prof. Alak Kumar Buragohain formally iugurated the festival in the presence of students, faculty members and others. During his deliveration, he highlighted the advantage of convergence of media and said that hardly there was any difference between virtual and real world nowadays. Among others, Prof Karabi Deka Hazarika and former president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Dr gen Saikia were also present.
