DHDC blocks roads in Haflong; hundreds of vehicles stranded

HAFLONG, March 13: Demanding immediate completion of Haflong- Jatinga feeder road, the Dima Hasao District Congress Committee (I) on Friday staged road blockade at Mahadev Tilla on Haflong – Jatinga road from 10 resulting massive inconvenience to the commuters.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded due to the road blockade. The feeder road a stretch of only 8 km from Haflong Post office to Jatinga point connecting East –West corridor was allotted to Simplex Somdatt  Company long back but the work was yet to be completed for which the commuters were forced to suffer a lot for a long time. The worst sufferer was the students as the works of the road was left half done and dusty.

The DCC(I) leaders alleged that the construction company has been playing with the sentiments of the people of Dima Hasao by delaying the works citing land dispute. The protesters today  demanded a written assurance from the authorities of the construction company. They said that this portion of the road was belonging to NHAI but the NHAI has also turned blind eye to the grievances of the people.

Mahendra Kemprai, president of DCC(I) and  EM, NCHAC talking to the media said that they would continue their agitation if the concerned authorities don’t not give any written assurance in this  regards. When asked about the land dispute he said the land dispute should not be an issue for delay of completion of the works. “We want good road and that too as early as possible,” he said.
