DHUBRI, June 5: Dhubri district has been declared ‘Open Defecation Free’ district. This came to light when a congratulatory letter by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and PHED Minister Rihon Daimari was received by Dhubri district administration on Monday. The letter was issued by the Mission Directorate, Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), Assam. In Dhubri, there was a target fixed to construct 1,61,943 household latrines after a base line survey last year, but Dhubri district was lagging far behind from achieving the target till February this year.

However, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anant Lal Gyani set the target to construct 15,000 latrines under the Mission Sambhav launched on March 26, 2018, and the target was achieved. Gyani took the project on priority basis and kept motivating the officials and staff by constant monitoring, an official source informed. When contacted, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anant Lal Gyani thanked rural people, field staff and officials for achieving the target. “It is a big satisfaction for me to achieve the target and make Dhubri district open-defecation free. Having finished this job successfully, now I am focusing on other ongoing development projects and schemes and making all-out effort to complete them on time,” Gyani added.
