Dikrong Murder Case: Suicide Attempt In police Station Lockup Foiled

Itanagar: The main accused of Dikrong murder case Issak Ali tried to commit suicide inside lockup of police station here on Thursday morning, Capital Complex SP Tumme Amo said. He tried to commit suicide by burning himself using clothes and mattress issued to him.

Alert guard commander and sentry after noticing the fire pulled him out with simple burn injuries and the fire was doused. He was taken to TRIHMS where declared him safe while the OC has been directed to urge the court to send him to jail, the SP said.

“The accused said that he pulled out thread from the mattress to bind all clothes and mattress together before starting a fire with a lighter,” Amo said, adding that Ali thought he would never be caught but feared capital punishment, which could be the reason for suicide attempt. But, Nahalagun SDPO in conducting inquiry as to how the accused got a lighter. It is possible that the lighter was left behind in the lock up as many were there during anti-PRC who might not have been checked properly, he said, but Ali was thoroughly checked.
