Discussion over CAB’16 will be held after Lok Sabha Elections, says NEDA Convener Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: The North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener and Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma admitted the stand of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over Citizenship Amendment Bill is clear and committed, “We will discuss the matter through consensus and consultation after the Lok Sabha Election,” but, “yes we have difference in ideologies with regional party Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)”.

Himanta also informed that the regional party AGP has also not diluted their stand on the matter of CAB’ 16 during a joint press conference at BJP party office in Guwahati’s Hengrabari today.

Assam Finance Minister also claimed that the sole aim of the AGP-BJP alliance is to bring back Prime Minister Narendra Modi into power. “BJP is open to discussion on Citizenship Bill, but we will discuss the matter after the Lok Sabha Elections,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma addressing the press conference.

NEDA convener also informed that a delegation of AGP-BJP along with BJP National Secretary Ram Madhav will visit New Delhi on Saturday. The delegation would meet BJP National President Amit Shah ahead of the final party meeting which will be held on March 17. “National BJP president Amit Shah will address the meeting with all the NEDA and BJP allies from Northeast,” added Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Himanta also informed that BJP-AGP will jointly hold political meetings at all the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies ahead of the polls. “In Upper Assam- Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Kaliabor, Lakhimpur, and Tezpur, Missing Gana Shakti president Paramananda Chayengia will join us. Similarly, in Mangaldoi, Kokrajhar, and Koliabor, we will be joined by BTC Chief Hargrama Mohilary and MP Biswajit Daimary. In Nagaon, Ramankanta Deuri and Tiwa Jana Gusthi Sabha will be joining the meeting. And in Dhubri and Guwahati constituencies, Tankeswar Rabha will join in,” NEDA convener, Himanta Biswa Sarma added further.

On the other hand, AGP President Atul Bora addressing the press conference at BJP party office stated that alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is to defeat Congress party in the Lok Sabha elections. “We have differences in ideologies and we sticking to our respective stands. Our sole aim is to bring back Prime Minister Narendra Modi into power for the greater interest of the people of Assam,” said Atul Bora.
