Dispur all set for Aadhaar Implementation Role Out from first part of October

Guwahati: Rolling out of much awaited Aadhaar Card implementation in the state has finally got momentum and it is expected to go full swing in the first part of October with the State Registrar, the General Administration Department (GAD) issuing work orders to the six shortlisted firms.

As per the press statement by the GAD, the work was initially supposed to be started in the last part of August this year, the work got slightly delayed due to some official procedures.

The selected firms have already been handed over the official work orders on September 1, 2018 for supplying Unique Identification Authority of India certified one machine and operational kits along with one skilled operator per Aadhaar Enrollment Centre on monthly rental basis throughout 1241 number of such centres spreading in 33 districts of Assam. It is expected that the firms would have a year’s time to complete the task assigned to them for 316.34 (lakh) residents of the state who are yet to receive Aadhaar Card.

It is to be noted that out of 340.68 (lakh) estimated population only 24.34 (in lakh) have Aadhaar generation so far.

The six selected firms have already been given the terms and conditions of the project and contract agreements have also been signed between the Registrar and the firms on September 6.

Altogether 20 firms had applied for the Aadhaar exercise and out of them only 6 firms have been finally selected through a ‘Bid Evaluation Committee’ and ‘State Level Aadhaar Implementation Committee’ notified for the purpose.

The entire state has been divided into 10 zones for the project.

GAD has already identified/notified 1241 enrollment centres in the states spreading across 33 districts. The Unique Identification Authority of India would be providing the fund for the cost of generation of Aadhaar Cards for the residents through the Registrar and the other expenses like consumables, stationery items for the enrollment centres would be borne by the GAD.

The press statement also stated that a review meeting was recently held between GAD and the Additional Deputy Commissioners who would be monitoring and supervising the entire exercise at the district level. A training session was also carried out among the Government officials.

An orientation programme has also been organized for the selected firms on September 14 at GAD where the UIDAI technical persons were also being briefed the suppliers about their roles and responsibilities in the Aadhaar generation.

All the selected firms would be contacting the respective Deputy Commissioners with regard to supply and installation of Machines and Kits along with skilled operators.

It may be mentioned that the UIDAI issues a 12-digit number that is called Aadhaar Card to Indian residents. The Aadhaar Card Enrollment application form would be provided to the residents in the enrollment centres.

The Aadhaar form can be downloaded online through UIDAI website or by visiting nearest Aadhaar Enrollment centres, banks/post offices. Once the application has been submitted, the Aadhaar card can be downloaded online after 10-12 days from the date of submission of application.
