DLF land deal 2008: Robert Vadra, Ex-Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda Booked

An FIR has been lodged by Haryana Police on Saturday against businessman and Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, DLF Company Gurugram and Onkareshwar Properties concerning an alleged land fraud case in Gurugram in 2008.

As Manesar Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Kumar informed PTI that an FIR has been registered against Robert Vadra and Bhupinder Singh Hooda, along with two companies DLF and Onkareshwar Properties t Kherki Daula police station in Gurugram.

They have been booked under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (fraud), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document).

In his reaction, Robert Vadra said, "It’s election season, there has been an increase in oil prices so the government just thought let us divert the real issues that affect people with Robert Vadra’s decade-old issue. Whats new in this?"

A person Surinder Sharma, a resident of Nuh, alleged irregularities in the land deals. The FIR stated that Robert Vadra's firm Skylight Hospitality Pvt Ltd purchased 3.5 acres of land in Gurgaon's Sector 83 from Onkareshwar Properties for Rs 7.50 crore in 2008 when Bhupinder Singh Hooda was the Chief Minister of Haryana well as the member of the Town and County Planning Department. Ensuring that, Skylight Hospitality sold this land to DLF at a price of Rs 58 crore, after procuring a commercial licence for the development of the colony under influence of Hooda. Vadra's company hence made a profit of about Rs 50 crore, complainant Sharma alleged in the FIR.

Previously in February, Hooda and 33 others were charge-sheeted by the CBI relating to a case of alleged corruption in Manesar land deals worth over Rs 1,500 crore. That charge sheet related to land transactions in Naurangpur, Manesar and Lakhnoula villages of Gurgaon.

As reported by Indian Express Hooda, in contrast, said, "No wrongdoing took place during my tenure. This is is a failed government, they are getting these things done to hide their failures. It is a complaint orchestrated by the BJP."

It has come to notice that in 2015, the Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government had set up Justice S N Dhingra Commission to probe the grant of licences by the Department of Town and Country Planning for developing housing and commercial colonies in Gurgaon's Sector 83 which also incorporated the alleged deals between Skylight Hospitality and DLF.
