Dn. Udaychand Brahma ordained as new priest of Catholic Church

KOKRAJHAR, Jan 16: Dn. Udaychand Brahma, son of Datta Ranjan Brahma of Pochim Salbari, Runikhata under Gurubhasa Parish of Chirang district was ordained as priest today by his Lordship Rev. Thomas Pulloppillil, Bishop of Bongaigaon diocese. He is the first Catholic follower from Gurubhasa to become priest since its establishment. The priestly ordition was held in connection with the observation of 11th Mahasabha of Gurubhasa Parish held from January 15 to January 17.

Dn. Udaychand Brahma, who hails from a poor economic background, is the third son of the family of Datta Ranjan Brahma and Podmini Brahma. After completing his degree in Arts, he left for theological studies in Darjeeling of West Bengal.

The Bishop of Bongaigaon Diocese Rev. Fr. Thomas Pulloppillil, Catholic priests from different parish, sisters, church leaders and around 5,000 Catholic believers were present in the priestly ordition. In the morning he was warmly received at Gurubhasa Catholic Church before he was ordained as priest. Dance troupes from Runikhata, Udalguri, Bengtol and other places performed after the ordition was over.

A grand felicitation ceremony will also be held tomorrow at Runikhata Mondali in Chirang district, the birthplace of Fr. Udaichand. The Christ followers under Runikhata Mondali will receive him with whole heartedly at St. Cluni’s School campus, Runikhata.
