GUWAHATI, June 27: “The difficulties that life offers you, please take them up as challenges to be surmounted and do not waver in your determination to reach your goal,” said the former Assam Director General of Police Mukesh Sahay while addressing the students and beneficiaries at the 14th Annual Meet of GRIEF & U held on Tuesday at the Community Development Hall, Noonmati.
GRIEF & U is the Guwahati Refineryians’ Initiative to Empower Forlorn and Underprivileged instituted on February 15, 2003. Attending the occasion as chief guest, Sahay lauded the efforts of GRIEF & U for the efforts they are taking in supporting the education of the youth in the area despite their official responsibilities. The Refinery’s General Manager (Engg Services and Inspection) DK Sharma who is also the President of GRIEF & U urged the students not to lose sight of their goal under any circumstances and not to become involved in activities that are detrimental to their academic and overall growth.
During the occasion, one time scholarship awards were distributed to 19 meritorious students from financially marginalized sections of greater Noonmati area that passed the Class X and Class XII board exams with flying colors. In the meantime, teachers of Bhabanipur High School, which was adopted by GRIEF & U as their model school, were also felicitated with gamusa for their unconditional rendering of dedicated services in the school. Moreover, four students who have been supported by GRIEF & U and one student from Bhabanipur High school who had passed out the HSLC examination with flying colours were also felicitated.
